Dr. Chris Nahm BSc(Med) MBBS(Hons) PhD FRACS
Dr. Chris Nahm BSc(Med) MBBS(Hons) PhD FRACS is Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Transplant Surgeon at Westmead Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital and Macquarie University Hospital. His areas of specialty expertise include surgery of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts, gallbladder surgery and hernia repair. He has expertise in robotic and laparoscopic surgery.
Having completed specialist training in General Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital, he was awarded Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He was awarded a PhD for pancreatic cancer research undertaken in the Bill Walsh Laboratory for Cancer Research in the Kolling Institute, The University of Sydney. He was the inaugural Harris Van Beek Scholar for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Herbert and Gloria Kees Scholar, and previous Sydney Vital Scholar. He has authored over 70 peer reviewed publications in his field.
Ranking 1st nationwide in the ANZHPBA Fellowship Match, he undertook a clinical fellowship in HPB surgery at Westmead Hospital in Sydney prior to moving to the UK to gain further experience in complex hepatobiliary surgical oncology, abdominal organ transplant and multi-organ retrieval surgery in Europe’s largest teaching hospital, St James’s University Hospital in Leeds.
He is an Editorial Board Member of HPB (Elsevier), the Official Journal of the International Hepatic, Pancreatic and Biliary Association (IHPBA) and is a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery, British Medical Journal, HPB, Pancreas, Scientific Reports, ANZ Journal of Surgery, and Cancers. He is the Westmead Site Principal Investigator for the international multicentre CovidSurg3 Collaborative, and the Westmead Principal Investigator for the multicentre OPERAS study. He is a member of the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG) Translational Research Committee. He is the Program Co-Director for the University of Sydney Masters of Surgery Program and the Doctor of Clinical Surgery Program.
He has clinical and research interests in liver, biliary and pancreatic cancer biology, and is experienced in surgical resection of complex liver, pancreas and biliary tract tumours. He is also heavily involved in the teaching of medical students and training of future surgeons.
