Dr Amy Cao, MBBS, MS, MMed(clin epi), MBiostat, CSSANZ, FRACS
Dr Amy Cao is a specialist colorectal and general surgeon at Westmead Public and Norwest Private Hospitals.
Dr Cao graduated MBBS with distinction in 2013, Master of Surgery (by research) 2015, Master of Medicine (clinical epidemiology) 2016 and Master of Biostatistics 2023. She graduated the Harvard Surgical Leadership Program in 2022 with commendation and is currently undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in benign colorectal diseases. Dr Cao has published multiple peer reviewed journal articles, two textbook chapters and has presentations regularly at national and international conferences. She has been recognised with multiple teaching awards by University of Sydney and Australian National University medical schools.
Dr Cao trained in general surgery in the western Sydney network (NSW/ACT) and was awarded her Royal Australasian College of Surgeons’ Fellowship (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2021. She subsequently completed three colorectal subspecialty fellowships with the highly regarded Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) training program in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Monash Health and Macquarie University Hospital (research). She also undertook an additional fellowship in pelvic floor and anal sphincter physiology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (Sydney).
Dr Cao specialises in a broad range of colorectal diseases including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, deep infiltrating endometriosis, and benign anorectal diseases such as haemorrhoids, rectal prolapse and faecal incontinence. She is qualified in robotic, laparoscopic, transanal minimally invasive and open colorectal surgery.
